Needed for Hurricane Season
During a hurricane event requiring evacuation of the Gulf Coast, the American Red Cross sends thousands of volunteers from all over the United States to work in the coastal states because we do not have a large enough pool of local trained volunteers. We know that we can best meet the needs of our own communities with volunteers from our own communities. So talk to your friends and neighbors about the Red Cross and give us a call at 291-4533 to volunteer and train so that we are ready when the time comes.
We live in Louisiana and we know that it's not a matter of IF, it's only a matter of WHEN.
It is time to get ready for what is forecast to be a very active hurricane season. That means you should plan for the personal needs of your family - food, water, communication, transportation, pet supplies - to minimize the disruption in your lives. You also need to think about your community and what you are going to do to help the community recover.
On the day after a disaster, you may be among the hundreds of willing and capable people who report to the American Red Cross headquarters and offer help. But before you can be assigned to one of the 32 Red Cross activities, we have to register, screen and train you. That takes your time and ours, under conditions that are less than ideal, when we all need to be in the field rendering service.
You can volunteer and train NOW, so that you are ready when the time comes.
