Help the Red Cross Reach Its Goal

LA GRANGE, TX, April 14, 2010 – Eugene Niemeyer and local Farm Bureaus became “Heroes for the American Red Cross” today. Through their donations, the Fayette County Farm Bureau of $600, Cistern Local Farm Bureau of $300 and Niemeyer's personal donation of $100, your local Red Cross office has raised over $5,700 for its Heroes Campaign. These funds will be used to support disaster relief, assistance for fire victims, emergency military communications, first aid and CPR training and disaster preparedness information for our community as well as an Americorps Vista for 2011 for Fayette and Colorado counties.
All support for local Red Cross services comes from individual donations in Fayette and Colorado Counties and Health and Safety Course Fees. When those funds are expended, funds are pulled from the total chapter budget to support emergency services. There were nine Single Family Fires since July, 2009 with expenditures totaling over $7000. The ideal funding is for each county to receive designated funds, however Fayette and Colorado Counties have not been self sufficient since the Chapter assumed responsibility for the counties in FY 2006 so funding is pulled from the chapter general funds.
The fundraising goal for Fayette and Colorado counties is $16,000. Our current local Heroes include Second Chance Emporium, Flatonia Farm Bureau, La Grange Noon Lions Club, Hospice Brazos Valley, Fayette County Farm Bureau, Cistern Local Farm Bureau, Eugene & Barbara Niemeyer, and individual donors. Please visit the following businesses to support the Red Cross Counter Canisters - LifeChek Drug, F.H.'s Brisket & Brew, Le Petite Gourmet, and Jayne's Place. If your group or organization would like to participate in this campaign, please contact Stacey Norris at 979-968-8931 or Stacey_Norris@RioColoradoArc.org and we will get you started. Personal donations can be sent to American Red Cross, 255 Svoboda Lane, La Grange, please include Heroes Campaign in the memo line.

Military Drive
The American Red Cross branch office serving Fayette and Colorado counties is collecting military addresses for servicemen and women serving overseas. The military personnel must be a resident of either Fayette or Colorado county and currently serving outside the United States. The Red Cross will use the addresses to send care packages to these servicemen and women on a quarterly basis. The next batch of care packages will contain yummy girl scout cookies!

Please forward the addresses to Stacey Norris, Community Outreach Coordinator, at Stacey_Norris@RioColoradoArc.org or American Red Cross, 255 Svoboda Lane, La Grange, 78945 by May 21. Supporting Our Troops

The Red Cross military drive was a huge success! Through the generous donations from the students and staff of Sacred Heart School in La Grange, the La Grange Service Unit Girl Scout troop, Fayette County 4H Horse Project Club, Fayette Savings Bank, La Grange Rotary, and the communities of Fayette and Colorado counties, the Red Cross was able to collect enough items to share with over thirty servicemen and women. The first Red Cross military drive was completed in December of 2009 and the next one will take place in July 2010. Please contact Stacey Norris at 979-968-8931 or Stacey_Norris@RioColoradoArc.org for more information.
