Many people are not aware of the fact that each chapter of the American Red Cross is almost entirely independently funded. Each county in the Rio Colorado Chapter receives only $4,000 per year. Operating costs far exceed this (one single-family fire can cost as much as $1,000), and it is up to you to help make up the difference.

It is therefore important to understand that there are two equally important but different ways to donate to the Red Cross:

1) Donations made to our national headquarters contribute to the national disaster relief fund, make lifesaving research possible, and make the nation safer.

2) Donations made to the Rio Colorado Chapter of the American Red Cross directly fund community-level activities like education, disaster services, and service to the armed forces.

Support your country and your community by making donations to both funds.

All American Red Cross disaster assistance is free, made possible by voluntary gifts of time and money from your friends and neighbors. To help victims of disaster, a financial contribution is the most beneficial and efficient way to help.

More than 95 cents per dollar spent by the Rio Colorado Red Cross Chapter goes directly to helping people. The real value of every donated dollar becomes magnified by the fact that for every paid Red Cross staff person, there are approximately 50 volunteers at work in communities nationwide. The Rio Colorado Chapter is even more efficient: we have only two paid staff members for our over 200 volunteers.

We accept checks by mail. Please DO NOT send cash by mail. If you would prefer to make a cash donation, visit us in person, or contact us for more information.
