Masters of Disaster® is a disaster safety curriculum integrating disaster safety into Kindergarten to 8th-grade students' daily lesson plans nationwide. Children will learn how to prevent, prepare for, and respond to a disaster in their home, school, or community. The American Red Cross has developed a disaster safety curriculum for earthquakes, hurricanes, tornadoes, floods, lightning, and general disaster preparedness. There are three separate curricula—one for K-2, one for 3-5, and one for 6-8. The lesson plans can be integrated into core academic subjects: science, math, social studies, and language arts (including reading, word comprehension, and spelling).
Masters of Disaster® has been introduced in multiple local schools in Matagorda county such as: BCJH, McAllister, Tinnie Holmes, Linnie Roberts, Cherry, Bay City Middle School, Palacios Junior High, Eastside Intermediate, Central Elementary, Van Vleck Elementary, E. Rudd Intermediate, Van Vleck Middle School, Tidehaven Intermediate, Markham Elementary, and Matagorda Elementary.
